Broken Watch Press is an independent press publishing the work of Hayes Brown. After several years drowning in the abyss of traditional publishing, I started Broken Watch Press to pursue writing in the way many painters and musicians pursue their art. The general goal is to develop a body of work and an audience who appreciates it.
I have experimented with conventional book printers, on-demand publishing, and in-house production in issuing Broken Watch Press titles. My recent efforts have been limited edition, hand-crafted books. With my fourth book, Mammalian Mayhem on a puny planet, I was able to incorporate color, texture, design, illustrations, and words to more fully realize my artistic vision for this book.
After a long hiatus, there are a several projects underway. The BWP website is transitioning to a new platform, which will take some time to complete. Plans are underway to establish a new online store. And, there is a manuscript in pre-production. If all goes well, Haunted by Lost Souls will be published in 2018.
Stay tuned,
---Hayes Brown
Carhood is a must-read for anyone who has ever been in a car. This original coming-of-age story told through the author’s memories of his family’s cars
is both humorous and moving.
Hayes Brown’s casual style and southern charm are immediately familiar and engaging, as he introduces you to the concept of “carhood” by tracing his own development through a succession of cars. Initially, you will laugh along with his recollections, but soon you will be laughing at your own carhood memories. The power in this small book is how prompts readers to imagine their own carhoods and begin telling funny and meaningful stories to
their friends and family.
Booga is a hilarious novel about a man who decides to quit his job, break his wedding engagement, drive across the country, compete in boomerang tournaments, and kill himself. Along the way, Boo Rasmuson is joined by a beautiful blonde hitchhiker, a green-glowing freelance journalist, and a mannequin who comes to life. This small group becomes the core of a new cultural phenomenon dubbed—“Booga,” which grows as it follows Boo on his quest to become a world-class boomerangist.
Booga is a postmodern fable about life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, and ultimately about humanity’s destiny
to recreate itself.
In life, the defining moments and turning points often arrive without warning.
Not for the faint of heart,
Hayes Brown’s Hard Nose is
the story of a teenager forced
to face one those moments head on.
Is there significant Life on Earth?
In Mammalian Mayhem on a puny planet, Hayes Brown explores this question and
the central theories and myths about this obscure little planet that the Universe’s
top scientists and philosophers have studied for eons without much success.
This tee shirt was produced in memory of a great man, Neal Haygood, and his ability to resolve many heated conversations among friends with wit, a smile, and the simple phase, “It’s All Good,” reminding us that life is about our fellowship, not our differences. Printed in various sizes and colors.
Hayes Brown holds an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army, a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Emory & Henry College, and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the University of Alaska Anchorage.
He lives and works in the
Washington DC metropolitan area.
